So let me tell you about me, my company and the training position.

About Me

James Bramwell

Personal Trainer, Sport and Exercise Science

My name is James Bramwell and I run a personal training company called JB Fitness UK in North London, Highbury. My business is dedicated to helping men and women achieve their health and fitness goals through customised nutrition and fitness programmes. And business is growing!

I'm looking for two enthusiastic, motivated and energetic personal trainers to start training some of our current members and who would like to grow with our company. Our main service is indoor small group personal training sessions in London, Highbury, N5. These sessions take place Monday – Saturday.

We also offer one-on-one personal training programmes in our client’s homes and local outdoor spaces and nutritional guidance; within all of these we educate, motivate and support men and women to improve their health and fitness. Most members begin with an initial 30 Day coaching package, which includes nutrition, exercise programme design, monthly fitness assessments, and regular weekly training sessions.

  • Full time employment in the fitness industry.
  • Guaranteed Salary & Hours
  • No Rent
  • No need to find clients
  • Career Development
  • Holiday pay
  • Pension Scheme

You would be expected to be doing 35-40 hours a week initially. Sessions are delivered mainly in-person with some taking place online. Sessions take place Monday – Saturday:

  • All Small Group sessions start from 6am and finish by 12:00 PM on weekdays & 7:45 AM - 11:00 AM on Saturdays.
  • Our evening small group sessions take place on Monday - Thursday from 5:00 PM - 8:30 PM.
  • Our 1:1 sessions take place Monday - Saturday and times can vary.

You will be compensated fairly and there is always room to progress based on various factors.

  • The starting rate for a full time member of the training team is £23,500 - £27,500 per year.
  • The available roles include paid holiday and a pension.

Responsibilities and Duties

Tasks You’ll Be Expected To Perform:

  • Full Time Role. This will include regular coaching small group training sessions and working with our members one to one. Regular health assessments with members.
  • Develop Comprehensive Health and Fitness Programmes for Members. You’ll receive coaching and training on our fitness system and programmes, but you’ll have the flexibility to incorporate your training style and knowledge.
  • Tracking Client Progress. To ensure a client's success in our programmes, you'll need to track weekly progress, current successes and challenges, review client nutrition and exercise log worksheets, and more on a weekly basis. It will be your job to hold a client accountable to his/her health and fitness programme to ensure the best results possible.
  • Perform Fitness Evaluations. Ideally, you'll have some fitness assessment skills and can test for: body composition, body weight, measurements, blood pressure, heart rate, and various strength and flexibility tests. You do not need previous experience, but if you do, that's a bonus.
  • Coach Members through 30 Day Programme. You'll be responsible for weekly exercise sessions and keeping detailed weekly progress reports on the clients you’re working with. If a client is having challenges throughout his/her programme, you'll coach and motivate them, and make appropriate changes to ensure consistent progress.
  • Demonstrate Proper Exercise Instruction. This is a big one. I need you to be able to provide proper coaching, instruction, and motivation during a client training session. You should have a working knowledge of the human body (i.e. muscles, movements, functions, etc.), and be able to provide appropriate exercises, plus progressions and regressions that relate to the member’s goals and fitness level.
  • Provide Ongoing Health and Fitness Education. Our members rely on us to service all of their health and fitness needs. It is your job as a fitness coach to provide your members with health and fitness education on various topics that empower them to lead healthy lives forever. You'll be provided with educational tools and resources, be expected to study them, and speak about them with our members. We also spend time covering this in our fortnightly staff meetings.

Qualifications and Skills

These are the skills you must already have in order to qualify for this position:

  • Health and Fitness Qualifications - You should have a REPs Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification. You do not need personal training experience, but you should have a working knowledge of health and fitness, and how to take members through a programme.
  • Good Communication Skills - You will be talking with my members, who are VERY important to me. You must be comfortable conversing in-person and on the phone and know how to conduct yourself professionally, and deliver clear instructions to the members. I’ll teach you everything you need to do during a training session, but I can’t teach you manners and professionalism.
  • People skills and personality – must LOVE working with people! - As mentioned above you must be very comfortable working with people. This is an exciting studio and you must be able to show our members energy and excitement while working with them.

Bonus Skills

If you have these additional skills, your resume will go right to the top of the stack (but if you don’t have these skills, you should still apply because these are not mandatory).

  • Previous personal training experience (fitness studio, health club, in-home trainer, etc.)
  • Familiarity instructing members to use Kettebells
  • Familiarity instructing members to use TRX suspension trainers
  • Advanced nutrition knowledge
  • Comfortable in front of the camera
  • Exercise Science Degree
  • CPR Certified

Requirements For The Coaching Position

This is not the type of job where just showing up is enough. Performance is everything to me. If you perform, you will be rewarded. I want nothing more than to find a person who takes real interest in doing good work and taking care of our clients.

The successful applicant will not be charged any 'rent' on the gym space, this is a personal training position at one of the most established and sought after gyms that would suit someone new to the industry.

With all that said, as I mentioned in the headline on this page, enthusiasm and a positive attitude go a long way in my book. I'm a very positive, upbeat business owner and appreciate those qualities in others. As long as you have the basic skills I mentioned, and a great attitude, you're definitely a candidate! So submit your information today!
